WASHINGTON / TEL AVIV, October 9, 2025 — The United States is deploying around 200 troops to Israel to help oversee the newly brokered Gaza ceasefire, in what officials describe as a limited but “critical” mission to ensure the truce holds and humanitarian aid flows safely into the war-torn enclave.
According to senior U.S. defense sources, the troops will not enter Gaza but will operate from coordination bases in southern Israel. Their primary role will be to assist in setting up a civil-military coordination center — a hub designed to monitor ceasefire compliance, manage logistics for humanitarian convoys, and liaise between Israeli and Palestinian authorities.
A Pentagon spokesperson confirmed that the deployment is part of a multinational stabilization effort that includes teams from Egypt, Qatar, Turkey, and the UAE. “This is not a combat mission,” the spokesperson emphasized. “Our troops are there to support peace, accountability, and the safe delivery of aid.”
The move follows the landmark ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas — brokered with heavy U.S. involvement and personally endorsed by President Donald Trump earlier this week. The deal, seen as the first major breakthrough in months of conflict, aims to halt hostilities, facilitate prisoner exchanges, and allow reconstruction aid to enter Gaza under international supervision.
