Sheopur: Congress leaders Digvijaya Singh and Madhya Pradesh Congress chief Jitu Patwari, along with Vijaypur bypoll candidate Mukesh Malhotra, were booked by the Madhya Pradesh police for allegedly violating the model code of conduct. The incident occurred when Congress leaders organized a public meeting on the Morena-Shivpuri highway, contrary to the permission granted for the Mandi campus.
The FIR, filed on a complaint by Flying Surveillance Team (FST) in-charge Dinesh Kumar Chanderia, accuses them of violating sections 126(2), 223, and 285 of the Bharatiya Nyay Sanhita (BNS), relating to wrongful restraint, disobedience to public orders, and obstruction on a public way.
Additionally, Congress leaders, including Bhander MLA Phool Singh Baraiya and opposition leaders Hemant Katare and Umang Singhar, were previously booked for allegedly sharing an outdated video of BJP candidate Ramniwas Rawat, potentially to mislead voters.
The Vijaypur bypoll was triggered when former Congress MLA Rawat joined the BJP ahead of the upcoming Lok Sabha elections. The bypolls for Vijaypur and Budhni will take place on November 13, with vote counting set for November 23.
