New Delhi, The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has strongly condemned the Waqf Amendment Bill, which was presented in Parliament today. In a press statement, the board criticized the ruling party, its allies, and the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC) for unilaterally pushing the bill without considering the views of Indian Muslims and opposition members. AIMPLB called this move “highly condemnable” and “undemocratic,” asserting that it poses a direct threat to Waqf properties, including mosques, eidgahs, madrasas, dargahs, and graveyards.
The board urged the government to withdraw the bill, emphasizing that crores of Muslims have submitted objections via email, presenting well-reasoned arguments. Despite this, AIMPLB stated that their voices have been completely ignored, highlighting what they describe as the government’s “biased, discriminatory, and hostile” stance on Muslim-related issues.
AIMPLB has called upon opposition parties, civil society, and defenders of constitutional and religious rights to reject the bill, warning that its passage would not only harm the Muslim community but also set a dangerous precedent affecting religious endowments across all communities.
Firm Stand Against Uniform Civil Code (UCC)
The AIMPLB also expressed grave concern over the implementation of the Uniform Civil Code (UCC) by the Uttarakhand government and the formation of a similar drafting committee in Gujarat. The board categorically stated that no state has the authority to enforce the UCC independently, as Article 44 of the Indian Constitution assigns this matter to the central government. The AIMPLB has vowed to challenge the UCC in court and launch a nationwide movement against it.
“The Uttarakhand government’s imposition of this flawed and unnecessary law is nothing more than an anti-Muslim move and an attempt to replicate Western cultures,” the board stated. AIMPLB urged the Muslims of Uttarakhand to remain steadfast in adhering to Shariat and uphold their faith with patience.
