Kolkata — The draft voters’ list prepared under West Bengal’s Special Intensive Revision (SIR) exercise is set to be published on Tuesday, marking a crucial milestone in the state’s electoral preparations ahead of upcoming polls.
Election officials said the draft list has been compiled after months of extensive door-to-door verification and data collection across urban, rural, and border areas. The exercise aimed to update voter records by identifying new eligible voters, correcting existing entries, and removing duplicate or invalid names.
Once published, the draft roll will be made available both online and at designated locations such as polling stations and electoral offices, allowing citizens to check their details. Voters will be given a specific window to file claims and objections if they find errors such as missing names, incorrect information, or duplicate entries.
Senior officials emphasised that public participation is critical at this stage. Citizens have been urged to carefully verify their personal details, including name, age, address, and polling booth information, to avoid complications during voting.
The SIR process has been one of the largest administrative exercises in the state, involving thousands of field workers and election officials. Authorities have repeatedly stressed that the objective is to ensure a clean, accurate, and inclusive voter list that reflects the ground reality.
Following the claims and objections period, all corrections will be examined and verified. The final voters’ list is expected to be published after this scrutiny process is completed, paving the way for smooth conduct of future elections in the state.
Election authorities have reiterated their commitment to transparency and fairness, assuring voters that every legitimate concern raised during the revision process will be addressed in accordance with electoral rules.
