A special Mumbai court has issued a fresh bailable warrant against former BJP MP Pragya Thakur, a key accused in the 2008 Malegaon blast case. The court handling National Investigation Agency (NIA) cases had already issued a warrant on November 5, requiring her presence by November 13. However, Thakur did not appear, citing health concerns.
During the latest hearing, Thakur’s lawyer, J.P. Mishra, presented medical documentation showing she was receiving treatment at a Bhopal hospital, prompting the court to issue a renewed warrant of Rs 10,000. Thakur has been ordered to attend court on December 2.
Thakur, alongside Lt. Col. Prasad Purohit and five others, faces charges related to the September 2008 blast in Malegaon, Maharashtra. The explosion, which occurred near a mosque, claimed six lives and injured over 100 people. In previous proceedings, Thakur denied allegations, asserting her innocence and accusing political opponents of implicating her in the case.
