Ahmedabad: An IndiGo flight from Mumbai to Delhi was diverted to Ahmedabad on Tuesday night after an anonymous tweet claimed that a bomb was on board. The aircraft, carrying nearly 200 passengers and crew, landed safely at Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel International Airport, where security agencies conducted a thorough inspection.
The diversion occurred shortly after takeoff from Mumbai when air traffic control was alerted to the bomb threat. Since Ahmedabad was the closest airport en route to Delhi, the pilots made the emergency landing. Following a comprehensive security check, no suspicious items were found, and the flight resumed its journey to Delhi around 8 a.m. the next morning after receiving clearance from security personnel.
This incident is part of a troubling trend, as several flights have recently reported similar hoax bomb threats. On Monday, three international flights originating from Mumbai received bomb threats; an Air India flight bound for New York was diverted to New Delhi, while two IndiGo flights faced significant delays. Police confirmed that nothing suspicious was discovered on any of these flights.
Additionally, on Tuesday, an Air India flight from Delhi to Chicago was diverted to Canada following another bomb threat, and six other Indian flights received similar threats via social media. In a related incident, the Singapore Armed Forces scrambled two fighter jets to escort an Air India Express flight that had also reported a bomb threat before safely landing at Singapore’s Changi Airport.
