Jerusalem — A missile launched from Yemen rattled nerves across central Israel on Friday evening after it landed in open fields near Ben Gurion Airport. Though no casualties or major damage were reported, the incident sparked panic among residents as sirens wailed across Tel Aviv, Jerusalem, and nearby towns.
Eyewitnesses recalled moments of fear as families rushed to shelters, children crying and phones buzzing with urgent alerts. The missile reportedly broke apart mid-air, scattering fragments that fell harmlessly in rural areas. Still, the timing and location — so close to Israel’s main international airport — left many shaken.
The Israel Defense Forces confirmed the strike and added that no infrastructure or lives were harmed. Earlier the same day, Israeli air defenses intercepted a drone also launched from Yemen toward communities near Gaza, again without casualties.
The attack is part of a broader pattern of strikes carried out from Yemen, where the Houthis have repeatedly claimed responsibility for targeting Israel in solidarity with Palestinians in Gaza. The latest missile serves as another stark reminder of how the conflict’s reach is widening, unsettling civilians far beyond the immediate battlegrounds.
