NPP Withdraws Support from BJP-Led Government in Manipur Over Violence Crisis

Shillong/Imphal, November 17: The National People’s Party (NPP) announced its withdrawal of support from the BJP-led government in Manipur, citing the failure of Chief Minister N Biren Singh’s administration to restore peace and normalcy amid escalating violence.

Despite the NPP’s seven MLAs in the 60-member assembly pulling out, the BJP government remains stable, supported by its 32 legislators and allies from the Naga People’s Front and JD(U).

Ethnic violence in the state since May last year has claimed over 200 lives and displaced thousands. Recent killings in Jiribam district sparked renewed unrest, with protesters targeting properties of BJP leaders and the CM. Earlier, the Kuki People’s Alliance also withdrew support over the ongoing conflict.

The NPP described the state government’s handling of the crisis as a complete failure in a letter to BJP President J P Nadda.
