Kanpur – Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Kanpur on Tuesday to inaugurate and lay foundation stones for multiple infrastructure projects worth over ₹1,500 crore, signaling a major push for Uttar Pradesh’s industrial rejuvenation.
Key Projects in Focus
The Prime Minister’s agenda includes inaugurating the redeveloped Bhauratna Park – a ₹121 crore riverfront green space along the Ganges featuring eco-trails and cultural zones. He will also launch the Jajmau Wastewater Treatment Plant (₹478 crore), designed to process 140 million liters daily and reduce pollution in the Ganga by 80%. Additionally, foundation stones will be laid for:
- A ₹690 crore Integrated Industrial Township in Kalyanpur
- Upgradation of the Chakeri Airport terminal (₹154 crore)
- Six new sewage pumping stations across the city
Strategic Significance
This visit underscores Kanpur’s critical role in UP’s economic revival:
“These projects will transform Kanpur into a model for river conservation and sustainable industry,” stated Union Minister Nitin Gadkari. The wastewater plant alone is projected to benefit 1.2 million residents while reviving local tanneries – a key employment sector hampered by environmental restrictions.
Political and Economic Impact
With Uttar Pradesh contributing 8% of India’s GDP, the projects align with national goals:
- Industrial Township aims to attract ₹5,000 crore investments
- Airport expansion will boost regional air connectivity
- Ganga cleanup advances the Namami Gange mission
State officials confirm 12,000 direct jobs will be created through these initiatives.
Security and Logistics
Elite NSG commandos have been deployed along the PM’s route, with traffic restrictions imposed from 9 AM to 5 PM. Local universities will remain closed as a precaution, while 15,000 spectators are expected at the Bhauratna Park inauguration.
