WASHINGTON, July 3, 2025 – External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar has categorically asserted that Pakistan does not have an impact on the relationship between India and the United States, underlining that their relationship is based on common interests and not third countries.
At a press conference, Jaishankar refuted allegations made by ex-US President Donald Trump about playing a part in bringing a ceasefire between India and Pakistan following Operation Sindoor. He stated, “The record speaks for itself,” calling for a shift towards the bilateral relationship between India and the US.
Jaishankar underscored the essence of India-US relations as being based on complementarity, saying, “Big relationships are not forged in terms of third countries.” Jaishankar emphasized India’s need for confidence in itself and referred to its ranking among the world’s largest economies and populous countries.
The statement came as the minister visited Washington to attend the Quad Ministerial meeting, where he spoke on different issues, including trade, investment, technology, and security with US Secretary of State Marco Rubio and other foreign ministers.
Jaishankar said once again that the destiny of India-US ties would be shaped by working together in critical areas like trade, energy, and technology instead of being measured by the behavior of neighboring nations.
