AHMEDABAD, June 13, 2025 – US Secretary of State Marco Rubio has authenticated that the United States is keeping close watch on the crash of an Air India jet en route to Gatwick, London. The plane, with 242 passengers on board, crashed barely minutes after taking off from Ahmedabad, hitting the campus of a medical college.
In a post on X, Rubio condemned the accident, saying, “We remain in touch with developments and stand by the emergency personnel seeking to assist those who have been affected.” He sent his condolences to the families of victims, adding, “Heartbroken to learn of the news of a tragic plane crash. My prayers are with all those who lost their loved ones in this terrible accident.
The crash has drawn attention from various members of Congress, including Representative Grace Meng, who chairs the Congressional Asian Pacific American Caucus (CAPAC). She stated that her office is prepared to assist constituents who may have family members involved in the tragedy. Meng expressed her condolences, saying, “I’m praying for all who have lost loved ones.”
The Congressional Caucus on India and Indian Americans also expressed their sadness, with co-chairs Rich McCormick and Ro Khanna declaring their support for the people of India at this moment of tragedy. Senator Mark Warner, the Senate India Caucus co-chair, reiterated the same sentiments by saying, “The U.S. stands with the people of India during this devastating time.
The Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) expressed its willingness to send a team to aid in the investigation, in cooperation with the National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB). The FAA cited that the government of the country in question would lead the investigation, while US authorities would assist on a case-by-case basis.
