AIMPLB Rejects Waqf Amendment Bill, Calls for Nationwide Protest on March 17

Maulana Mohammed Fazlurrahim, AIMPLB General Secretary, opposes the Waqf Amendment Bill - Citizen News Daily

New Delhi | March 11, 2025 – The All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB) has strongly opposed the proposed Waqf Amendment Bill, calling it an attempt to seize and destroy Waqf properties across India. Despite over five crore emails sent by Muslims to the Joint Parliamentary Committee (JPC), urging reconsideration, the government has made the bill even more stringent.

AIMPLB highlighted that previous amendments to the Waqf Act were always preceded by consultations with Muslim leaders and scholars. However, this time, no discussions were held before introducing the bill in Parliament. Even after strong opposition from various political parties, the 31-member JPC, largely controlled by the ruling party, dismissed 44 amendments proposed by opposition members.

AIMPLB Engages with Political Leaders

In a major development, AIMPLB’s General Secretary Maulana Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi led a delegation to meet TDP Chief and Andhra Pradesh CM Chandrababu Naidu in Vijayawada, urging him to oppose the bill. Several Muslim organizations have also launched protests nationwide, voicing concerns over the government’s approach.

The AIMPLB condemned the ruling NDA government, alleging that the bill is part of a larger communal agenda aimed at weakening the Muslim community. “Even NDA allies who claim to be secular are backing this bill despite receiving significant Muslim votes,” the board stated.

Nationwide Protest at Jantar Mantar on March 17

To intensify opposition, AIMPLB and other religious organizations have called for a mass protest at Jantar Mantar on March 17, 2025. The demonstration aims to mobilize secular parties, NDA allies, and the public against the bill.

The press release was signed by Maulana Fazlur Rahim Mujaddidi (General Secretary, AIMPLB) and Dr. SQR Ilyas (Spokesperson, AIMPLB).
