Washington — In a bold display of diplomacy, U.S. President Donald Trump today presented a 20-point peace proposal aimed at ending the war in Gaza and overhauling governance in the embattled territory. Flanking him at the White House, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu gave his public support, calling the plan aligned with Israel’s war aims, including the return of hostages, demilitarization of Gaza, and ending Hamas’s political control.
Under the plan, if both sides agree, hostilities would cease immediately. Hamas would be required to release all hostages within 72 hours. In exchange, Israel would withdraw forces gradually, while an international security force steps in to maintain order. A transitional “Board of Peace” — chaired by Trump with possible participation of former British Prime Minister Tony Blair — would oversee reconstruction and civilian governance. The plan envisions a path toward Palestinian self-rule, though only after strict security guarantees and restructuring.
Netanyahu praised the proposal, stating it “achieves our war aims” and vowing that Gaza should “never again pose a threat” to Israel. But he also warned that if Hamas rejects the plan, Israel would “finish the job … the easy way or the hard way.” Hamas has not yet responded, and the region now watches whether it will accept or reject the offer — and whether this bold blueprint might break the cycle of violence.
