Waqf Amendment Bill to be Presented in Rajya Sabha Today After Lok Sabha Approval- Citizen News Daily

New Delhi: The Waqf Amendment Bill, which has sparked controversy and widespread protests, is set to be presented in the Rajya Sabha today after receiving approval from the Lok Sabha. The bill proposes significant changes to the regulation and management of Waqf properties, a move that has been met with strong resistance from opposition parties and minority groups.

The government argues that the amendments aim to bring transparency, prevent corruption, and streamline Waqf administration. However, several opposition leaders and Muslim organizations, including the All India Muslim Personal Law Board (AIMPLB), have strongly opposed the bill, claiming it is an attempt to weaken Waqf institutions and seize minority-owned properties.

During the Lok Sabha debate, heated exchanges took place as opposition members demanded a thorough review and wider consultations before making any amendments. The AIMPLB and other Muslim bodies have called the bill a direct attack on religious rights and have warned of mass protests if it is passed without proper dialogue.

With the bill now moving to the Rajya Sabha, all eyes are on the upper house to see whether the opposition will succeed in blocking or modifying the proposed legislation. Minority leaders and civil rights activists are urging the government to reconsider its stance and engage in discussions with religious and community representatives.
